Digital Literacy Classes Wrap Up: Students Earn Certificates in Month-Long Program

FRAYEO celebrated the first launch of its Digital Literacy program with a month-long learning experience and a graduation celebration focused on giving back to the community. From building practical computer skills to receiving tools they could take home, students were supported in continuing their learning beyond the classroom.

Taught by Victor T. Nguyen, the program ran during June and July, with two weekly class groups:

  • Tuesdays, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM at the North Minneapolis CareerForce Center
  • Fridays, 2:00 PM–4:00 PM at the South Minneapolis CareerForce Center

Each month-long course included four classes. Students who completed the course received certificates recognizing their commitment to learning and developing essential digital skills.

A graduation surprise with PCs for People

For this first launch, FRAYEO worked with PCs for People to make graduation especially meaningful. Graduates were surprised with Surface Books from PCs for People—a gift to celebrate their achievement and help them keep using their new skills at home.

FRAYEO also provided gas cards to other students and additional computers, extending support beyond the classroom. These gifts reflected a simple belief: learning opportunities should be paired with practical resources that help people move forward.

Opening doors to work, school, and new technology

Access to a computer can make a meaningful difference when researching jobs, exploring school programs, completing applications, or finding reliable information. FRAYEO’s goal is to help community members gain both the confidence and the resources to take those next steps.

That vision also includes helping people explore newer technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), as a tool for job and education research. Used thoughtfully, AI can help people brainstorm questions, organize information, and prepare a first draft of application materials. Checking facts, protecting personal information, and keeping one’s own voice remain important parts of using these tools responsibly.

This first launch was about more than completing a course. It was about investing in our neighbors, celebrating their dedication, and helping make technology a bridge to opportunity rather than a barrier.

Congratulations to our graduates! Thank you to Victor T. Nguyen for leading the classes, and to PCs for People for working with FRAYEO on this first launch. Together, we are helping community members build skills, access technology, and pursue new possibilities.
